"This is definitely a company to watch...I can only wish all young theatre companies were this brave" NY Theatre

Counting Squares Theatre is a grass roots ensemble company that serves to create theatre to both entertain and reflect the issues, struggles, and joys of our community. Our primary task is to find new works and reconstruct classic pieces that reflect the human condition. We celebrate, through performance, the delicate balance of human relationships and aspire to the creation of theatre as an art form. Through the integration of ideas from all our company members we aim to provide accessible theatre to our audiences. We believe in magic; and that sometimes a chair and an actor is all the smoke and mirrors you need.

Fiscally sponsoring Counting Squares Theatre is The Field, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide service to artists throughout New York City. The Field is a not-for-profit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization serving the New York City performing arts community. Contributions made to The Field and earmarked for Counting Squares Theatre are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. For more information about The Field contact: The Field, 161 6th Avenue, New York,NY 10013, (212) 691-6969, www.thefield.org, e-mail: info@thefield.org. A copy of The Field’s latest annual report may be obtained, upon request, from The Field or from the Office of the Attorney General, Charities Bureau, 120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271.

RYAN NICHOLOFF (Founder; co-Artistic Director) is so happy to bring this beautifully collaborative labor of love to the NYC stage and be back at the Spoon Theatre. As the founder and co- artistic director of Counting Squares Theatre Ryan is thrilled to be working with this cast and honored to share the stage with such wonderful and talented people.  Ryan was last seen as Jack in Boys’ Life at the Kraine Theater and Max in the Blue Asphalt Productions/Counting Squares Theatre's critically adored production of Martin Sherman's Bent off-Broadway at the 13th street Repertory Theater.  Past roles include: Austin in True West, Ray in Lonestar, Bentley Summerhays in Shaw's award winning Misalliance and Lee Harvey Oswald in Assassins.  Ryan attended The University of Central Florida where he received his BFA in musical theatre as well as four Irene Ryan nominations for his performances. In his spare time Ryan enjoys traveling, getting lost in the city and eating good food. Ryan would like to thank his family, friends, and Dena for being the best person on Earth. Enjoy the show!

DENA KOLOGY (co-Artistic Director) is crazy for this wonderful group of friends and company members who have lovingly shaped this piece. Dena holds a BFA in Performance from the University of Central Florida. Before she made the move to the big NYC, she Co-Founded Swingset Productions and co-directed the smash (A New Brain) in sunny Orlando Florida. This year she directed and performed in Counting Squares Theatre's productions of Boy's Life (I and II) and Bent (AD). Some of her favorite roles include Nora (Nora), Gwen (5th of July), Marie-Louise (The Constant Wife), Eliza (My Fair Lady) and Sarah Jane Moore (Assassins). Dena thanks Ryan for being the most amazing partner in crime, and this talented group of folks for supporting the company and giving so freely of their time and energy! Love you all!

JOSHUA CHASE GOLD (co-Artistic Director) is utterly thrilled to be working on this brilliant project with the coolest people in town. Joshua received his BFA from the University of Central Florida and trained with the good folks of Shakespeare & Company in Lennox, Massachusetts. Here from the inception of Counting Squares, Joshua designed the scenery for Boys’ Life (at both Nicu’s Spoon and the Kraine) and directed the critically acclaimed off-Broadway smash Bent at the 13th Street Repertory Theatre. New York work outside Counting Squares Theatre includes a recent scenic design for Pippin. Favorite directorial and design credits include: Bent, Credo, Boys’ Life, Once on this Island, Spring Awakening, Medea, Nunsense! The Musical, and Ruthless! The Musical. Joshua looks forward to directing Counting Squares’ 2008-2009 Season Opener, Woyzeck. This one goes out to all the New York City artists who do the voodoo that they do. Infinite thanks to the company and all who support us. You are all beautiful!
