Counting Squares Theatre is a grass roots ensemble
company that serves to create theatre to both
entertain and reflect the issues, struggles, and
joys of our community. Our primary task is to find
new works and reconstruct classic pieces that
reflect the human condition. We celebrate, through
performance, the delicate balance of human
relationships and aspire to the creation of theatre
as an art form. Through the integration of ideas
from all our company members we aim to provide
accessible theatre to our audiences. We believe in
magic; and that sometimes a chair and an actor is
all the smoke and mirrors you need.

RYAN
NICHOLOFF (Founder;
co-Artistic Director) is so happy to bring this
beautifully collaborative labor of love to the NYC
stage and be back at the Spoon Theatre. As the
founder and co- artistic director of Counting
Squares Theatre Ryan is thrilled to be working with
this cast and honored to share the stage with
such wonderful and talented people. Ryan was last
seen as Jack in Boys’ Life at the Kraine
Theater and Max in the Blue Asphalt
Productions/Counting Squares Theatre's critically
adored production of Martin Sherman's Bent
off-Broadway at the 13th street Repertory
Theater. Past roles include: Austin in True West,
Ray in Lonestar, Bentley Summerhays in Shaw's
award winning Misalliance and Lee Harvey
Oswald in Assassins. Ryan attended The
University of Central Florida where he received his
BFA in musical theatre as well as four Irene Ryan
nominations for his performances. Ryan is also a
singer/songwriter and has composed scores for such
productions as Death of a Salesman, Look
Homeward, Angel, and Bus Stop. In his
spare time Ryan enjoys traveling, getting lost in
the city and eating good food. Ryan would like to
thank his family, friends, and Dena for being the

DENA
KOLOGY
(co-Artistic Director) is crazy for this wonderful
group of friends and company members who have
lovingly shaped this piece. Dena holds a BFA in
Performance from the University of Central Florida.
Before she made the move to the big NYC, she
Co-Founded Swingset Productions and co-directed the
smash (A New Brain) in sunny Orlando Florida.
This year she directed and performed in Counting
Squares Theatre's productions of Boy's Life
(I and II) and Bent (AD). Some of her
favorite roles include Nora (Nora), Gwen (5th
of July), Marie-Louise (The Constant Wife),
Eliza (My Fair Lady) and Sarah Jane Moore (Assassins). Dena
thanks Ryan for being the most amazing partner in
crime, and this talented group of folks for
supporting the company and giving so freely of their
time and energy! Love you all! |

JOSHUA CHASE GOLD
(co-Artistic Director) is utterly thrilled to be
working on this brilliant project with the coolest
people in town. Joshua received his BFA from the
University of Central Florida and trained with the
good folks of Shakespeare & Company in Lennox,
Massachusetts. Here from the inception of Counting
Squares, Joshua designed the scenery for Boys’
Life (at both Nicu’s Spoon and the Kraine) and
directed the critically acclaimed off-Broadway smash
Bent at the 13th Street Repertory
Theatre. New York work outside Counting Squares
Theatre includes a recent scenic design for
Pippin. Favorite directorial and design credits
include: Bent, Credo, Boys’ Life,
Once on this Island, Spring Awakening,
Medea, Nunsense! The Musical, and Ruthless!
The Musical. Joshua looks forward to directing
Counting Squares’ 2008-2009 Season Opener,
Woyzeck. This one goes out to all the New York
City artists who do the voodoo that they
